BK: Please tell us a little about yourself...
I’m a twenty-seven year old native of Greenville, SC, who currently lives in Rock Hill, SC. By day, I am a Patient Case Coordinator at a health consultant firm in Charlotte, NC and by night, I am an author with three published works under my belt. I enjoy writing urban fiction, but am looking to expand into romance, young adult, and Christian fiction novels. I also enjoy watching reality TV, cooking, eating out, and social media.

BK: Please tell us a little about your book....
Famous for its glitz and glamour, the city of Brookstone is also known as being the home of one of New York’s most notorious drug lords, Jay Santiago. The son of a famed politician and socialite, he spent the last seventeen years of his life in federal prison only to return to the city that took him captive. In true underdog fashion, Jay rises from the bottom and rebuilds an empire and cartel that is as powerful as its leader. After linking up with an old comrade, Jay believes he has found the one material object that will allow him to leave his criminal enterprise for good. However, his most prized possession could lead to his biggest downfall yet.

BK: What inspired you to pen this particular novel? I was inspired to write this book after receiving an enormous response to the character of Jay Santiago in two of my previous releases, Diamonds in the Rough and Diamonds Are Forever. Several readers had requested to know more about Jay’s background and I decided to write a novel that was focused more on his character than in the previous releases. In addition, I wanted to show his character’s transition from a notorious drug lord to a legit businessman.

BK: When did you first consider yourself a writer? I considered myself a writer starting in high school when I transitioned from poetry to fan fiction. My love for the art form led me to start writing full-length novels and since then, I haven’t looked back!

BK: How do you keep your story flowing? With my third book, I decided to write the book in real time. Readers are given the chance to experience almost a day in the life of the characters. Since the book is written this way, the story naturally flows and events occur in a more natural timeframe. I have decided to continue this with the rest of the series.

BK: Do you ever run into writer's block, and if so, what do you do to get past it? I have run into writer’s block several times. Whenever I am struggling to write, I take a break or I may reread what I have written to see if it can help me draw inspiration on where the story should go.

BK: What is your writing process like? Do you have any quirks, or must-haves to write? I love to watch action movie trailers or movie clips before I start writing. Car chases, fight scenes, and a good drama helps rev up my creative process. In addition once I’ve started writing, I like to have complete silence. My favorite time to write is actually early morning or late at night.

BK: Where do you hope your books/writing will be in the future? In the near future, I hope to have the entire series published and hopefully have national bestseller by my name. I look forward to branching out into different genres and increasing my readership.

BK: What do you hope readers will take away from your books? I want each one of my readers to have a character that they can relate to or a situation that they can identify with and hopefully learn from. It could be a situation such as witnessing your parents’ divorce, domestic violence, fertility issues, or being involved in that good old fashion love triangle.

BK: What is one piece of advice you received that you carry with you in your writing? Write first, edit later. Sometimes, I try to edit and write at the same time and I hardly progress with a story. I decided now to simply write without focusing on grammar or spelling.

BK: What is one piece of advice you would give to new and aspiring writers? The one quote that I use constantly is that no one can stop you, but you. In addition, someone reminded me that writing was my outlet. Sometimes, I get severely frustrated during the marketing and promotion of a book when I’m not reaping certain rewards and instead of venting verbally, I was told to vent through writing. I would like to share this with other authors, new and aspiring. Writing is our outlet, so let’s use it!

BK: Are you currently working on any new projects? I am currently working on Black Diamonds, which will be my fourth novel and am expounding on ideas for several short stories. I am also outlining my first Young Adult Christian Fiction novel, which will be written under a different alias. What can we expect from you in the future? I am hoping to release a short story sometime during the spring or summer and Black Diamonds in December of 2013 or January of 2014.

Carmen stared out the window as Kane’s Jeep backed out of the driveway. She wanted to call him to come back, but she knew that he wouldn’t. While they had cleared the air on one issue, another one had surfaced. This one, though, she couldn’t fix. She was nine months pregnant and Nyla was coming regardless of how Kane felt. He might not have liked the idea, but he knew when they renewed their vows that she was pregnant. He seemed okay with it then, but obviously the whole thing was an act.

When his car disappeared out of the gates, Carmen began to think that her marriage wasn’t going to survive. If Kane was running out now then she knew it would be worse when Nyla came. Jay would be around more than ever and she would be forced to communicate with him. There might even be times when he had to come to the house. The distance between her and Kane would only grow.

Carmen pulled the curtains closed as she made her way back to the bed. She sat down, and tried to fight back her tears. She and Kane had been fine until Jay’s lawsuit, which sent them spiraling back into a place that neither one of them wanted to be. BK: Please tell us a little about yourself Lane...

I was born in Pennsylvania and now reside in Massachusetts. I earned a BA in Liberal Arts with a focus on literature and history, and double minors in psychology and business. After college, I thought I was going to go into business, but realized I hated having to sell people things they didn’t actually need. So, I turned back to my love of writing.

I have several short stories published and The Freedman and the Pharaoh’s Staff is my debut novel. Don’t worry, there’s plenty more to come!

Lane belongs to a number of professional organizations including the Horror Writers Association, the Historical Novel Society, the Association of Writers & Writing Programs along with the National Writers Union. He also belongs to the Infinite World of Fantasy Authors.

When Lane’s not writing stories, he writes freelance for various websites on a range of topics. He focuses mainly on science, astrophysics, environmental studies, including Global Warming.

BK: Please tell us a little about your book....

The Freedman and the Pharaoh’s Staff is a historical novel set in Reconstruction-era Louisiana.
The most evil man in history, obsessed with creating a pure race, has crossed the barriers of time to retroactively complete his Final Solution.

In 1871, the United States government has nearly eradicated the Ku Klux Klan, who they fear will inspire Southern whites to make certain the South will rise again. The Klan’s remaining forces have retreated to Louisiana in hopes to escape the “Northern” government.

Jeb, a former slave, rescues his brother-in-law Crispus from the Ku Klux Klan, pulling him into a world of Creole Voodoo, hatred, time travel, and redemption. The two brothers-in-law set out to stop Verdiss and his Klan followers from using the Pharaoh’s Staff, a magical artifact from ancient Egypt. Soon, Jeb and Crispus learn Verdiss’ diabolical plan and discover that he serves an evil far more insidious than himself. In the end, Jeb and Crispus must stop an entire people from eradication and each find redemption for his own past sins.

BK: It sounds amazing, I can't wait to read it. What inspired you to pen this particular novel?

I was enrolled in an African-American literature class during my sophomore year in undergrad. We mainly studied the slave narratives of the 18th and 19th centuries, and I just fell in love. I couldn’t keep myself from writing in the genre.

BK: When did you first consider yourself a writer?

I think if you can’t quit writing, you’re a writer. So, I’ve considered myself a “writer” in that sense, but a professional writer? Not until my short story The Lost Continent was published in Innsmouth Magazine. Then the story was recommended for a Bram Stoker Award, which was a nice bonus!

BK: How do you keep your story flowing?

It’s about the characters. You have to know what they want, their desires, their goals, their story, and then throw everything you have into trying to stop them. Stories should be character driven. Why does your protagonist feel the need to fight against this particular “dying of the light”?

When you keep that in mind, I think the story flows the way it should.

BK: Do you ever run into writer's block, and if so, what do you do to get past it?

Surprisingly, rarely, and the few times I have, I take a break to read. Reading someone else’s work puts me in that creative mind.

Usually when I’m not writing — going about my business during the day — ideas pop into my head. I’ll be walking the dog, see the way a tree sways, and a great idea will hit me.

So, I guess you could say that’s why I rarely have writer’s block.

BK: What is your writing process like? Do you have any quirks, or must-haves to write?

A comfortable chair, and a big cup of coffee. Enough said.

BK: Mmmm. I LOVE coffee :). Where do you hope your books/writing will be in the future?

Always be writing. That’s how I operate, so I have plenty of books, and a screenplay, in the works. Whether they sell, make it to the New York Times Best Seller’s list, or end up in the trunk, it’s all up to the wind, I suppose.

BK: What do you hope readers will take away from your books?

Ignorance is not to be underestimated. It leads to racism and hatred. It’s a struggle to understand these ideas, and it can be painful to try to do that, but if we’re to have any kind of future, we need to.

I can sum it up in that famous saying: All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.

BK: I love it, well said. What is one piece of advice you received that you carry with you in your writing?

Write what you don’t know, but do your research.

BK: What is one piece of advice you would give to new and aspiring writers?

Learn how to write. Like in any business, there are certain nuances you need to understand and implement. Then never stop writing.

BK: Are you currently working on any new projects? What can we expect from you in the future?

A lot. I have several more books in the works, and I just finished a screenplay.

Allenville flashed in Jeb’s head. Bodies burning, people tortured and brutalized in the streets. Somehow he felt the same thoughts in Fallon. “Jeb. Fallon. This way. I found a mambo a few blocks away on Laurel Street.” Crispus’s voice broke through the crowd.
“Come on!” Fallon pulled Jeb through the throng of people. Crispus’s voice always sounded just beyond them, amidst the night madness of Baton Rouge. “Wait!”
“Where’d he go?” Jeb tugged on Fallon’s hand, pushing aside a doughy man.
“He took a right down Nacadian Road. Wait, Crispus!” The hideous ensemble of vendors, farriers, knackers, and other merchants crying out their goods seemed to drown out the boy’s call.
One moment, mayhem wracked the market, the next it fell silent. Fallon stopped, so Jeb did. He couldn’t move, the herd seemed to stop stampeding. Footfalls echoed in the street. The crowd spread. Then came the heavy clacks of soldier’s boots on the flagstones. A band of men, too many to tell. But Jeb knew them by the procession’s cadence–Confederate soldiers. Though blind, Jeb saw Forrest clad in the gray Confederate officer’s uniform, adorned with medals. He’d seen photos of him. Tall, in his fifties, a receding hairline and a curly mane of black hair. A well-kept goatee tinged gray like his uniform.
I can end it all. Fight through the crowd. A single shot to the head. To hell with being blind, I can do it. For a moment Jeb meant it, caressing his pistol. It’d be easy. Instead, he listened to the Ku Klux Klan founder, savior of the white race, and ender of Reconstruction, parade along the street. Celebrated by a throng of who knew how many people. They were closer now, close enough for Jeb to count them. Four guards following him. Plus Forrest, that’s five. Six shot pistol. Just enough for one miss. He gripped his pistol. It didn’t matter that the crowd loved Forrest, even cheered him on. Six rounds is enough. Jeb edged his pistol free from its holster.

This is my first round with Stephanie Queen, and I have to say, that honestly...

 I'm a new fan for sure! Even though this is the second book in this series, it doesn't take away from this book and it does stand alone. I really enjoyed my first time with Stephanie, and it is very fast paced, definitely catching you from the beginning! I loved Sophia's witty attitude, and the fact that she and Chauncey end up in the sea and running for their lives before they barely get to say hello, puts this author right on my A list. The only thing I didn't like, was in the beginning I felt like the dialogue was a bit choppy, but as I got into the story I found that it fit the characters and got past it. I could see the scenes so vividly, it was like I was watching a movie rather than reading the book. It's one that you can't put down until you get to the end, and the end is there before you know it.  I will definitely be reading book one, The Throwbacks, and I would recommend this book to all mystery romance lovers!

“I have a favor to ask,” Grace said from behind her desk, pencil in hand and dimple in place. “I need you to pick up David’s latest recruit from Scotland Yard at Logan Airport and keep him busy for the day. Show him around.”
Sophia couldn’t stop her usual sarcasm in spite of the fact that Grace was her boss as well as her best friend. This so-called favor made no sense. Even for Grace.
“Are you serious?” Sophia planted her hands on her hips. “Let me make sure I understand you--You’re asking me to babysit one of David’s Scotland Yard hot shots on the eve of my possible career breakthrough?”
Grace nodded. Her big blue eyes were wide and honest. Something was up.
“That’s crazy talk. Tomorrow’s the shoot for the audition tape.” Sophia knew that Grace knew this since Grace helped set it up for her, but she felt it was worth mentioning the obvious.
“Yes. I know.” Grace smiled then looked back down at her drawing. “And a distraction is exactly what you need to keep your nerves at bay.”
“What? My nerves are fine.” If her dam voice hadn’t squeaked at that moment, she’d have been more convincing. Something was definitely up. And Sophia would never admit it to Grace, but she did feel a bit edgy--if edginess included nausea, headaches and sleeplessness.
“I know you.” Grace paused and gave her the serious-yet-loving older-sister type look that she mostly put up with. “This will be good for you and…and I’d really appreciate it.”
Grace was playing dirty pool now with that appreciation bit, but Sophia still didn’t buy it.
“And what if I didn’t have time today?  Were you going to tear me away from my project?”
“Actually, yes.  I wasn’t going to mention it, but some of the men were complaining about your presence at the set and asked me to have you back off just a smidge.” Grace scrunched her brow. “But don’t worry, honey, they think you’re wonderful. It’s just lately...”
“Great. That’s great.” Her hands flew into the air. “I got painters and paperhangers and carpenters talking to my boss behind my back.” This was not good. She plunked herself on the edge of Grace’s desk and folded her arms. She tried staring at the stack of fabric samples on the other side of the office so Grace wouldn’t notice if a tear slipped out. Because, damn it, she might be on the brink of crying.
Grace picked up the box of tissues and handed it to her. “You’ll be alright, Pixie honey. This is the perfect way to get your mind off everything to do with decorating and the design show audition filming and TV cameras. I’m asking for a one-day one-shot favor.”
Grace’s voice sounded a little too sweet, even for her, and “Pixie honey” or no “Pixie honey”, that was cause for suspicion.  She blew her nose. Okay, so maybe she needed a break, but she wasn’t convinced that playing tour guide to some British guy fresh off the boat...or rather airline--was the way to go.
“I’m saving up my vacation time and I don’t think you have the authority to assign me to pick up some random guy at Logan Airport and show him around town while I’m on the clock.  We’re in the decorating business.”   She remained seated on the edge of Grace’s desk, tossed the balled-up tissue in a basket halfway across the small office and re-folded her arms.  “Besides it doesn’t even sound safe.”   She blew the blunt-cut bangs off her forehead for emphasis.
Grace looked at her with that smile and said, “He’s from Scotland Yard, honey.  Of course it’s safe.  It’ll be fun.  I don’t know what you’re worried about.” Her face brightened and she added, “You don’t have to use vacation time.
