The Amen Heresy by W.H. Muhlenfeld ****

Picture
The Amen Heresy by W.H. Muhlenfeld is a great book. Very insightful and gets you thinking.

Ex-Priest, Jack Fisher, is led to Jerusalem after he receives a strange package from his colleague Dr. Dvir Gottlieb. Inside the package is a medallion with some sort of code on it. Unsure of what it is that Gottlieb is trying to tell him, he decides to make his way to Israel.

After arriving to Israel, Jack becomes acquainted with a Palestinian boy, Sami, that Gottlieb has prepared to meet Jack. Sami then explains the meeting time and place of the code on the medallion, which Sami has also received. Together they try to decipher the rest of the code on both medallions, unbeknown to them they are being watched from several angles.

Jack finds himself in a full blown mystery after a murder, a kidnapping, the introduction to a "lioness" (Ariel) , and a beating to Sami. In the fight to survive, Jack must help Khalid, a Neurotic Egyptian, find the missing Copper Scroll from the Dead Sea Scrolls. It seems Khalid has found the work and research of Dr. Dvir Gottlieb and Jack Fisher very intriguing, only Gottlieb was onto something much more serious in his findings that he wasn't able to share with Jack as of yet.

Jack, Ariel, and Sami end up in Egypt trying to find the missing scrolls while trying to outwit their followers and stay alive. Follow their story through Israel to Mt. Sinai.

Muhlenfeld proved his research in The Amen Heresy. It was an informative read, though a little slow getting into the action. Once Muhlenfeld hit the excitement, it held my attention wanting to know what happened next. I especially loved Jack Fisher, who had so much turmoil in his own mind! I give it ****(4)Stars, BK Walker-Author of "Near Suicide" and "Dares And Dreams".

Poison Reality:A Symphony of Bittersweet by Nedyne Shorts-Nettles ***1/2

Picture
"Vierna Bates, a woman scorned, finds herself staying in a hotel the local newspaper labels a rape den. She decides to stop moaning her pending divorce and venture to go downstairs to the club. As fate would have it something held the elevator door opened. As she got closer, she saw the limbs of a person. This began a kaleidoscope of events.

The woman Vierna helped was an old classmate named Terry Trainer. Terry, a student of Wallerton College, was attending a travel and tourism convention. Terry?s life now presents purpose and she vows to live every day to the fullest. Terry will not rest until she finds her attacker, had her attacker been a friend or foe.

Captain Bill Meays, a handsome investigator, finds himself enthralled in a significant case that involves several women acquaintances. One woman in particular holds the key to solving the puzzle but time is not on his side. This is a spellbinding, heart-stopping saga echoing the poison reality of life. Life isn't always harmonious but it is a symphony of bittersweet."

Review by BK Walker:

Poison Reality by Nedyne Shorts-Nettles was definitely a different kind of book, a flash forward novel. This title has several characters, all of which have some issue with their past and use it as the reason for their behavior they demonstrate today. All the characters eventually tie into one another in some form, while the story leads back and forth between characters. The plot was great with a great concept, but the transitioning was pretty rocky.

Many times while reading this title I found myself lost and having to go back to reread parts to figure out what I missed. There was no indication of a character change which left me confused and going back many times as well. There were some timeline discrepancies and a little more research might have been beneficial.

Aside from that minor detail, it was a good book and how the characters all tied together was excellent. Nedyne Shorts-Nettles had a fantastic idea with her writing, and maybe this book would have benefited more if it were written as one short story leading into another.

The Snake Without A Hiss by Steve Goss

PictureAlbert is a snake with no hiss. His siblings make fun of him because he has no hiss. When Albert tries to hiss it comes out as a whisper.

Albert goes to the deer sisters trying to scare them and they ignore him. He is a snake with no hiss how can that be scary? He further tries to scare the rabbit, porcupine, skunk, and a hen with no success. His siblings have to scare away the animals and make fun of poor Albert after.

Alberts siblings continue to make fun of him when suddenly he gets so mad that when he yells "STOP! Thissss isss not funny anymore!" Albert gets really tall and then his siblings fall silent. Albert has gotten his hiss and a promise from his siblings to never tease him again.

I thought the book was great! Kids will definitely love this book and it's perfect for the younger reader. The illustrations were very awesome! I give The Snake Without A Hiss **** (4) Stars, Daniel Dietz, reviewer of Childrens book for BK Walker Books, son of BK Walker- Author of "Near Suicide" and "Dares And Dreams". http://bkwalkerbooks.weebly.com

The Forest Portal by Melody Dempsey ****1/2

Picture
The Forest Portal by Melody Dempsey was a great read! The title is perfect for the plot within the pages.

Cameron Maine is about to graduate high school. On the last day of school when the bell rings, Cam and his sister Collette and friend Taden head to the beach for some last day of school fun.

Cam being the inventor type, decides he is going to gather some seaweed and shells to try and concoct a serum to turn old wood to look brand new.

Much to his dismay, what Cam actually invents is a glowing rainbow paint. Disappointed with failure, Cam, Collette, and Taden take the paint to the woods, intending to make the trees more colorful.

When painting the trees in the woods, he finds it doesn't glow like it did back at his house. As Taden steps between two trees that were standing close together and both wearing Cam's paint, the kids are stunned as the glowing neon colors surround Taden and he disappears.

After a few seconds of Cam and Collette standing in awe, the colors reappear and Taden is back.

They discuss what happened and realize Cam didn't invent a serum to restore old wood, but a serum that created a time portal.

Follow Cam, Collette, and Taden on their adventures through time travel. Where they go into a time of the past, meet ancestors all the while trying to maintain their secret.
