*****1/2 Read & Review of L.A. Boneyard by P.A. Brown

Picture
L.A. Boneyard by P.A. Brown is absolutely astounding! If you're a murder and mystery fan you are surely going to love this book! Captivating from start to finish, it's a must read!

David Eric Laine is a homicide detective of the Northeast Community Police Department in Los Angeles. When two bodies turn up in a local park, Detective Laine begins his pursuit to find the killer, with his new homicide partner Jairo Hernandez.

With no clues as to who these women are, and a new partner prove to bring chaos into David's life. As the investigation pursues, his partner shows increased interest, more than in just the case at hand.

When a third murder almost kills David's life partner, Chris, Chris is sent away on business. In the days of Chris's absence, Jairo becomes more persistent in his advances. David struggles with his morality and desires, trying to maintain professional boundaries while trying to solve these murders.

Trying to keep the investigation the main focus, the only clue into these deaths are dental work and tattoos all the deceased possess. When they narrow down there search to claim identities, they uncover a smuggling and prostitution ring with a surprising twist.

L.A. Boneyard is phenomenal! Full of suspense, murder, mystery and even explicit sex, Brown left nothing out! What more could you ask for in one book? I strongly recommend this book and I believe Brown could possibly be the next J.D. Robb. I think we can expect to see much more from P.A. Brown. I loved this read and I give L.A. ****1/2 Read & Review of Surviving the '70's in Small-Town USA by Roland and Gwen Higginbotham

Review by BK Walker : Surviving the '70's in Small-Town USA by Roland and Gwen Higginbotham was a great read! If you were from this time era, be prepared to be taken down memory lane.

Robby Hendricks lived in a small town with his family. They were in poverty level and struggled to keep food on the table. The stresses that come with being unable to provide for your family makes home life, at times, unbearable.

Follow Robby through his hardships from an abusive father, trouble in school, to finding love, dealing and using drugs, losses to death, and the road he took to make his way back to a healthier life.

The Higginbotham's did a spectacular job of telling this tale. It was definitely like being taken back in time to what you have already experienced and know to be true of fact.

You will find Robby's life to be very close to many people we know or even ourselves have experienced. It truly is like a flashback. I loved how there were World Happenings listed with each chapter for each year through the '70's. Fantastic! Awesome ***** Read & Review of Addiction by Sandra K. Marshall

Picture

Review by BK Walker
- Addiction by Sandra K. Marshall is one of the best books I've come across this year! A must read for those that love a true murder and mystery.

Jolene Dubois is a recovering alcoholic. As she struggles to remain free from the bottle, she is surrounded by other addictions of gambling and sex.

Jake Farrell has been hired as head of security at Odyssey Casino, and Jolene is one of the owners. She finds herself drawn to him more than just as his employer. When Jolene becomes the 'addiction' of a serial killer, Jake swears to protect her never expecting to fall in love with her.

Marshall has created a phenomenal plot as we watch Jake and Jolene try to deny their feelings for each other, while the killer gets closer and closer with each passing day. They may even find the killer is closer to home than anyone ever expected.

An addicting read full of suspense, emotion, and erotic sex. Addiction is a definite page turner that you won't want to put down until the mystery is solved. I highly recommend this book and think we will be seeing much more from Sandra K. Marshall. I give it ***** (5) Stars, ~BK Walker, Author/Review from BK Walker Books. http://bkwalkerbooks.weebly.com

A must have for any Murder/Mystery Fanatic

GUNSHOT ECHOES

What follows a gunshot after the noise dies away? The echoes are not all audible. The bullet cannot be recalled. Someone's life is changed, seldom, but sometimes, for the better. GUNSHOT ECHOES is a collection of fictional accounts dealing with guns and the aftermath of shootings. It is not a social commentary on the right, or not, to bear arms.

The Outlander, a novella of South Africa

When David Stone, an American who has adopted South Africa as his home, answers the telephone he is sure it is his boss and owner of Private Computers International, Alex Becker, calling from the United States, nine time zones away. David does not realize at the time just how far his upscale lifestyle is about to tumble when the caller identifies herself.

The beautiful Marjie van der Luen is an engineer for the South African electric power company. Her technical alliance has been important to PCI's success, but she wields an even more intimate influence on David's personal life. David has lost track of her for two years, and now she is just a scratchy telephone line away, and David remembers. Marjie remembers too. She remembers David's reckless promise that he will kill for her, and she’s calling in the favor.

The intended victim Diana Craighall, while unknown to David, turns out not quite a stranger. After gaining entry to her home through subterfuge, David discovers that Diana is the fiancée of his employer, Alex Becker!

Following the murder, David discovers that Marjie has set up a strategy to blackmail him, or perhaps to expose him as the killer. To protect himself David sacrifices Marjie to the authorities, and in the process murders twice more.

Through it all, David manages to conceal his involvement. However, Alex isn't convinced of David's innocence, and relieves him of his position with the company. While David is sorting out his crumbling circumstances, Marjie's friends kidnap and punish him for his treatment of Marjie.

The Short Stories

The "Mexican Holiday" is anything but as it unravels into an international kidnapping and drug smuggling terror. The protagonist is a travel magazine freelance writer who, with the aid of some friends and fellow travelers, saves the day for, and most of the lives of, a tour bus full of panicked vacationers from north of the border.

"Hambone Calls the Tune." Bonaparte Hammond is the new cop on the detective force, faced with investigation of a shooting that becomes the first in a sequence of murders. He masquerades as "Hambone," a newspaper music critic, in his attempt to unmask the killer, as the investigation leads the detective through the halls of country music.

"The Clay Pigeon" is a police procedural investigation and resolution of the shooting death of an international sportsman. Set in the Niagara Falls region, the story takes place in a skeet-shooting venue in which hundreds of participants from around the world bring hundreds of shotguns to the competition, and one of those guns is the murder weapon.

"Hobby House" is a publishing company in trouble that has nothing to do with the price of paper or print. The old owner-publisher steps down, his son steps up and steps on some toes, causing a writer and an editor to step forth with murder on their minds. A cop captain who can't remember names writes finis to the whole unwholesome chapter.

"A Murder for the Book" is a blueprint for, and completion of, the perfect murder, carried out by a world renowned murder mystery author who is well acquainted with leaving clues, or not leaving them at all. The story revises a historic adage that could be translated thusly: "Beware of friends bearing gifts."

Review of Gunshot Echoes
: Jim Woods did a superb job with his title Gunshot Echoes. This exceptional Novella and compilation of several short stories is going to enthrall any murder mystery fan.

Woods knows how to keep the suspense and mystery alive, while leaving you eager to turn the page to see how the plots are going to unfold.

In the novella The Outlander - David Stone is a successful businessman in South Africa.

When the woman he loves shows up after years of absence, David is torn between his morals and regaining Marjie's love at her request for murder. In high hopes of having her again, he gives in to her demands and pursues his target.

Covering his tracks with every move he makes, David ends up implicating Marjie. Who is it that will be the one to get away with murder?

~Find out in this thrilling tale full of mystery and murder. Excellent read.

The Mexican Holiday - Raymond Yancey is a magazine reporter on assignment in Mexico.

When three Mexicans board the tour bus and hijack it, Ray must do some quick planning to help save them all.

~This story is one of those that has you punching the air saying, "That's right! Get him!"

Hambone Calls The Tune - Detective Hammond is at a stand still in his investigation. Three murders have occurred and the only connection is a country music bar.

Going under as a columnist for the local newspaper, Detective Hammond finally gets the lead he seeks to break the case.

~I enjoyed this read taking a special liking to Detective Hammond. He knows how to get things done.

The Clay Pigeon - When the biggest Shooters Tournament is held in the city of Buffalo, the shock of a murder was a little unnerving.

Law Enforcement Officials from all surrounding counties join this investigation when it is noted to have over five hundred guns as possible murder weapons.

~All the guns made this story a thriller. Keeps you guessing as to what will happen in the end.

Hobby House - New publisher Jack Connelly is brutally murdered in the lobby of his office building.

The murder weapon leads investigators on a wild goose chase in Mexico in pursuit of an Antique Arms and Swords Collector.

With a missing sword and gun and a previous argument with his publisher, the collector becomes the main suspect in Jack's murder.

As the investigation develops, it leads detectives to within the company.

~I enjoyed this story as Woods added humor to a good plot of murder.

A Murder For The Book - A writer gone dry has come up with a plan to make his next novel the most perfect murder/mystery novel of all time.

~This one had a great ending, with great clues. Fantastic!

Overall, Gunshot Echoes is an excellent read and will definitely appeal to the fans of this genre. It had me anxious to read to the end and I give it ****½ (4.5)Stars~BK Walker-Author/Reviewer of BK Walker Books, http://bkwalkerbooks.weebly.com

Today's Feature: The Azure of Solicitude by Joy J. Kaimapramban

Kakkathuruthu, one of the villages in which half of the events take place in my novel, was once the dwelling place of all kinds of crows. Then humans came there. The crows behave with intelligence. They can understand the language of people, but cannot speak. People believe that a crow never dies due to old age. That it becomes young at the time of other creatures go back to earth. Once in a year the people perform the death anniversary of the passed out souls. On plantain leaves, they dedicate rice glomerations on the burial place of the dead forefathers and pray them to take the worshipped substance and give back benisons. Crows crowd there in order to take the given eatables. The crows are believed to be the departed souls. Unless crows refuse to take anyone's rice glomerations, she or he would be a sinner. And some birds like Kalankozhis (Fowls of Yama) are believed to be the predictors of a coming death. Yama is the Deity of death and Kalankozhis are His messengers. That if a Kalankozhi sings the song of death, there would be a soul's departure in the surroundings. Every year in the hottest month, the people pray to Deity Sun for blessings. They want to get decreased the sultriness of the Deity's rays. They want to get increased the crop of paddy cultivation. Worshipping of the Deity Sun is known as Audityapooja or Sooryapooja. And there are the legends of Sabarimala Sri Ayyappan, Vaver and Veluthachan. The beliefs on them are as prominent as of breathtaking among the Keralites. Every year they go to Sabarimala for having the divine sight of Sri Ayyappan, where His Idol is installed. Near His temple Vaver's temple too can be sighted. But Veluthachan's Idol is erected and consecrated in a Church to which people go for worshipping. As Caste Hindus some Christians who consider themselves as forward caste alienate black complexioned recently converted Christians. These Caste Christians consider themselves as the successors of the ancient Christians who had converted into Christianity from Brahminhood. The incredible beliefs govern the villagers and have moulded their lifestyle.

****Read & Review of a great Children's Book : Pugs Go On Vacation by Lela LaBree Stute

Three pugs go on a summer vacation. The characters are Ingah DuPonte, Beatrice and Cissy.

The story begins at “the annual pug vacation planning meeting”. The pugs decide on their destination and agree to what their activities will be. Immediately after the meeting they pack up and leave in a carriage type RV or SUV for dogs.

The pugs stop for lunch on the way to their camp- ground (pugs are always hungry) and when they arrive they find they have not planned well at all (this often happens to pugs). Not to worry! There are other activities for them.

The pugs decide to go on a boat ride. After inspecting the lake for cleanliness, they get on the boat. The boat ride does not go as planned. Finally they decide to go home.

They pile back in the carriage for the long drive home. The pugs find they are more excited to arrive home than they were to arrive at their vacation spot.

Ingah DuPonte, the youngest pug, gives words of wisdom at the end of the story. All ends well.

*Book Of Interest*...Church Hurt - Behind the Veil: A Close Encounter of the Wicked Kind by Edy Jones

I have penned these pages to help those who have been hurt or misunderstood by their church. I want to let everyone know that they can return to the church. The church belongs to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and He gave us a good example of how to handle accusations and gossip. When the woman accused of adultery was taken to Jesus to be stoned for the very act of adultery He told them, “If any one of you is without sin let him cast the first stone.” The crowd disappeared and Jesus told the woman “Go and sin no more.” Jesus loves us and we have grace and mercy, and none of us are without sin, so therefore none of us can judge another.

If you agree with how it is so common that we continually judge others, when it is so not our place to pass judgment, then you might enjoy this novel by Edy Jones. It has been placed in my list of books to buy and I believe this will lead us into some great insight into the Word of God. It would make a great Christmas gift also. Keep it in mind. :)

The Atheist in the Woods...too funny not to share :)

An atheist was walking through the woods.
'What majestic trees!
'What powerful riv
ers!
'What beautiful an
imals!
He said to himself
.
As he was walking alongside the river,he heard a rustling in the bushes behind him.
He turned to look. He saw a 7-foot grizzly bear charge towards him.

He ran as fast as he could up the path. He looked over his shoulder & saw that the bear was closing in on him..
He looked over
his shoulder again, & the bear was even closer.
He tripped & fell on the ground.
He rolled over to pick himself up but saw that the bear was right on top of him, reaching for him with his left paw & raising his right paw to strike him.

At that instant the Atheist cried out,

'Oh my God!'

Time Stopped.

The bear froze.

The forest was si
lent.

As a
bright light s
hone upon the man, a voice came out of the sky.

'You deny my existence for all these years, teach others I don't exi
st and even credit creation to cosmic accident.'

'Do you expect me to help you out of this
predicament?

Am I to count you as a believer?

The atheist looked directly into the light, 'It
would be hypocritical of me to suddenly ask you to treat me as a Christian now, but perhaps you could make the BEAR a Christian'?
'Very well,' said the voice.
The light went out.. The sounds of the forest resumed. And the bear dropped his right paw, brought both paws together, bowed his head & spoke:

'Lord bless this food, which I am about to receive from thy bounty through Christ our Lord,

Amen.'

Looking for a review???

Are you looking to get your book reviewed? A book review may just be what jets our books into the public eye. The review, based on an individual's opinion may be exactly what the reader is after. It can help identify what people are thinking of the author's work, along with whether it might be "a must read". Potential buyers of books look at book reviews to learn whether the content is actually worth buying, especially if it's a new author.

So I have compiled a list of book reviewers listed here in alphabetical order. Certainly there are many more sites and reviewers available, all you have to do is some research. I have given you a head start though, by doing some of the work for you.

Also, if you're looking for a quick review, I'm taking a crack into the review world. Thus, my interest in reviewers. Part of my research. So if you would like me to look at your work, proofread and/or critique, or write a review, you can drop me a note with your request.

I hope you find this useful. Let me know what you think. Drop me an email : bkwalkerbooks@comcast.net.

This is a true story of a mother and the death of her two daughters. Sheila, mother of two, was killed by a drunk driver. Sherri, mother of three, died of cervical cancer two and a half years later. Now the mother wonders how to survive with only four of her six children. The mind is a funny thing, and she thinks she is losing hers. With nowhere to turn, she started writing Silent Killers, hoping to increase awareness of cancer and drunk drivers and the devastation that they cause. They will kill anyone of any age. Now in honor of both daughters, she hopes to save the sanity and lives of others and increase public awareness of two silent killers. Maybe her story will help others to overcome the never-ending nightmares that still plague her mind.

This book is going to be a real tear jerker. I can't wait to read it. I have read some of the reviews for Linda's book and they are absolutely astounding. I wanted to share one of them here, but you can see all reviews on amazon.com. You can also visit her author page to learn more: Linda Pannett

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read, May 31, 2004
Silent Killers is a heartbreaking non-fiction book about two beautiful women that died to soon. Linda Pannett puts her heart and soul in telling the story of her daughters. As you read you will get to know these two lovely girls and grow to love them as their family did. Having to say goodbye to two children is almost more than any mother should have to do. Pannett will have you grieving with her as she brings you with her on the road to the loss of her beloved daughters.

I would recommend this book to everyone. It will break your heart. And it will make you mad that people take life for granted everyday without thought to how they will hurt others with one wrong decision. If ever I have read a book that is a must read it is Silent Killers.

*Book of the Day*....The Healing of a Broken Vessel by Denise Joyce Williams

Many of us at one time or another in our lives has suffered some kind of devastation, humiliation or desperation. In this journey we call life we are constantly seeking answers to the questions that only God Himself can answer. For this reason, we challenge you to read this author's inspiring account of how she'd been broken by cirumstances, humiliated by molestation and victimized by loved ones. The author's conversational writing style combined with true life experiences make "THE HEALING OF A BROKEN VESSEL" an excellent read. You will on some level identify with the heroine and quickly become her ally. If you are unable to identify with her through a shared or similar life experience it is a good assumption that you know someone who does.

Finally you will feel a sense of renewal and victory as you journey with her from a victimized broken individual to one that is healed, free, victorious and whole in CHRIST! Don't deny yourself the opportunity to stand up and cheer from within.

It begins in the American South, the 1860’s, with a girl in the wrong place at the wrong time. A girl with her whole life ahead of her. A life lacking daily choices, but not lacking dreams. The girl is a slave and her name is Lila. Lila doesn’t feel particularly special in any way and each of her days lead seamlessly into the next. There is a man that she knows nothing about, a man that knows everything about her. A man that has been watching her, waiting for a moment to save both Lila and himself. History Always Repeats

Chapter 1

I laid in bed, my head aching and my mind filled with thoughts of distant memories. I sat up on one elbow to look out the window. We had made a beautiful home for our children. Dan had made my dreams come true when we got married. He showed me the deed to the house right before we got married, but refused to let me see it until he could carry me across the threshold.

“Dan I can walk.”

“No Janie. We are doing this my way.” He smiled as he picked me up in his arms and carried me across the threshold of our new farm house. As I looked into his eyes he was so proud to give me my dreams. He looked down at me, “I love you Janie.” He kissed me, and we were now standing in a place we could call home.

“This is ours?” I couldn’t believe it as I looked around.

“It’s all ours Janie.” He kissed me again as he set my feet on the floor.

I always dreamt of living on a farm with horses, cats, and dogs. When Dan bought me this farm I never dreamed what we would do with it. It was a big farm house with 22 acres of land. The wrap around porch was amazing and perfect, as I always pictured in my mind. Once you walked into the door you were in a large country kitchen with so many cupboards it was like a display at some warehouse. Off the kitchen was the dining room, that was large enough for two tables, though we only had one. Off the dining room was the living room. Long and wide, with a fireplace and more room than I’ve ever had. Upstairs there were eight bedrooms leading up to the third floor, with a fireplace in the master. There was more room than we would ever need.
We did get horses, an animal I always dreamed of owning. We own twenty seven horses, some rescued, some bought, some just retired racers. We have ten cows, three of them dairy, one bull, seven cats and three dogs.

We also opened our home to an endless array of troubled children of all ages. We had little Becca when we were younger, and Lonnie came along two years after we were married. Both of our children have been a blessing to us. Little Becca, named after my childhood best friend Becca, has grown into a beautiful girl. With her long wavy blonde hair that curls tight at the ends, and those baby blue eyes that hold the blue of a drift wood fire. How she ended up with blonde hair instead of my dark hair I will never know. Lonnie is such a smart boy and growing more handsome everyday. He has dirty blonde hair with blue green eyes. He keeps his hair short and his lips are full. He looks so much like his father.

I watched my husband Dan hauling hay to the pasture from the window. He is still as beautiful as the first day I met him. His dirty blonde hair that has bleached streaks from the sun, his tanned muscular body still sends chills of excitement down my spine. He is absolutely stunning, and watching him riding shirtless on the tractor, made me gasp. I sighed as I continued to watch him.

“Mom….. Mom……….MOM!”

Rebecca, as my daughter likes to be called these days, because Becca is too childish, brought me from my reverie. “What is it Rebecca?”

“Another headache?” She asked in almost a whisper.

“Yes honey. I don’t know what is wrong with me, it’s the fourth headache this week.” I laid my head back on my pillow.

“Maybe it’s time to go to the doctor Mom.”

“Maybe, but there is too much work to be done. It will pass. I will be fine after I rest a little bit.” I closed my eyes.

“Ok Mom. I will be back to check on you in an hour. I better go help Dad.” She kissed the top of my forehead.

We had a new boy coming today. Tyler Smith was Rebecca’s age, 16, and coming from a not so great situation. He was living with his alcoholic father, who beat him. When the mother died, the father just gave up. He blamed the boy for the mother’s death, and wallowed in booze. When he was drunk, he would beat him. This last time he almost killed him. So he is being brought here where he can be away from his father until he is of legal age.

A Day In The Life......

So here is the scoop :).....

I have been asked many questions and heard many misconceptions about being a nurse. So on my way to work, to my nursing job, I decided that I would like to write a book on nursing. Not just nursing, but the health care field as a whole.

I would like to write all the many ups and downs that come with the job, such as:

Joy
Satisfaction
Long Hours
Disappointment
Sorrow
Empathy
Frustration

I'm pretty sure you're getting the point. So...here is what I would like to include in my book.....

Stories from you!

I would like you to email me some of your nursing stories. I don't want to hear just from nurses though. I would like to hear from Doctors, Respiratory Therapists, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Aides, Personal Care Aides, Speech, Psychology, anyone and everyone from the health care profession. Even Ward Clerks and Receptionists.

So here is what you do:

*Write your story, funny, sad, or indifferent.

*Email it to bkwalkerbooks@comcast.net with the subject line "HC Stories"

*Include your name, and whether you want me to include it with your story...(Full Name, First Name, Initials, Nickname, No name at all) but I still need your name for my own purposes

*Include your contact email and home address (this will not be given out or sold)

*Your profession

*How many years you have been working in your field

Your stories can be funny, sad, happy, angry, sarcastic, etc. You choose your story and you choose how many you would like to send to me. Yes, you can send me more than one.

All stories will be featured in the book. I am going to call it "A Day In The Life..." So I will use your stories, and my own, and write things about the profession in between. It will be kind of like the "Soup for the Soul" books, but about Health Care and Nursing.

I think this will be a good thing. Not only can we share our stories, but we can clear up the misconceptions, one being that our jobs are easy. Health Care is anything but easy, though it can be very gratifying.

So rev up those brains, get those fingers typing and send me your stories. I look forward to hearing from you and reading your stories.

**Also, for everyone of you that sends me a story, you will be entered in a drawing, one entry for each story you send, to receive a FREE signed copy of the book once it is published. (Depending on how many stories I receive will decide how many drawings will be done).

*NOTE: Do not forget to include how you would like your name to appear in the book, if at all.

Happy writing and talk to you soon! :)
