Please welcome Author Gwyneth Greer.  Gwyneth is on tour with Goddess Fish Promotions with her book,  Showboat.  Welcome Gwyneth.  It's a pleasure to have you with us today.  Gwyneth and I will be relaxing on the porch swing during this beautiful warm day with a chilled glass of Sweet Tea to sip while we chat.

Today Gwyneth is also offering a giveaway - She will be giving away a copy of The Showboat Affair in any format (including print) chosen by winner, pink laser flip-top mirror with engraved info about book, and a $10 gift certificate to Bath and Body Works to one randomly chosen commenter throughout her tour.  So be sure to leave a comment for Gwyneth to gain an entry.

Please tell us a little about yourself......
I’m a retired teacher. You name it, I’ve taught it—including special ed and English as a second language! A lifelong fascination with history (and an M.A. in same) and years of genealogical research fuel the spinning machine from which my tales emerge. Like my grandfather, I love to travel—when anyone says, “Let’s go…” I reply, “Let me get my hat.” I was widowed early, raised my sons alone, and now have two beautiful granddaughters.

What inspired you to pen your first title?
Where Is Papa’s Shining Star? and Finding Papa’s Shining Star started out based on a long-hidden family story—but then they evolved into a hymn to my favorite historical eras—World War I through World War II and just beyond. By the time I finished, the family story had little to do with anything!

How long have you been writing?
Forever. I’ve had a lifelong love affair with pen and paper, typewriters, word processors, and, finally, computers. It’s second nature to see or hear something and think, “Oh, that would make a good story.”

What was the hardest part about writing this particular novel?
Probably making sure the clues dropped throughout the book made sense and all came together in the end. Then there was the research—the geographical logistics of Houston, making sure I accurately described the Branson locations.

Have any dreams been realized as a result of your writing?
Just holding “my book” in my hot little hands! It’s a real thrill! But I also have to think about how pleased my mother would be that my ‘writing aspirations’ have been realized, especially this late in life. I never wanted to publish to be ‘rich and famous’—just to, as you put it, realize a dream.

Is there a message in your novel you want readers to grasp?
The theme of The Showboat Affair is basically ‘second chances’—but the thread that weaves itself throughout the fabric of the story is mending relationships, forgiveness, and the truth that no one is ever all bad or all good.

Where do you hope to take your writing in the future?
I have another novel contracted by Champagne Books, due out in 2012, and another submitted to a different publisher—hoping for a contract, but it might not happen. I’m working on a series of six ‘cozy’ mysteries. There is one novel sitting on the computer needing revision and two more begging to be written. I’ve figured I’ll have to live to 106 to get it all done! Seriously, I would like to have more short stories published, so I keep sending them out to magazines and journals.

What advice do you have for writer's just starting out?
I don’t know that I have enough expertise to be giving advice—but for what it’s worth, I’d say to learn everything you can about the writing craft and the publishing business—have pieces ready to send out, and don’t take rejection personally. And know WHY you write. If you’re looking to make a career as a writer—actually earn your living that way—that takes a different plan. If you’re just having fun with it, as I am, it’s a whole different thing.

Anything else you would like to share with us today?
Just a big ‘thank you’ for allowing me to visit here today—and also to The Wild Rose Press who helped turn my dreams into reality.

Blurb for The Showboat Affair

Despite over thirty years in a faithless marriage to wealthy investment broker Rand Kingston, Jean is shocked when he asks for a divorce. Encouraged by her former housekeeper-turned-best-friend, she determines to rediscover herself as an independent woman and move on with her life. Nick Cameron, prominent attorney and long-time widower, would like to figure in her plans. The opposition of their adult children surprises them. Then, a series of chilling near misses makes them wonder who really is determined to keep them apart—and why.

Excerpt #2 from The Showboat Affair

The peal of the doorbell startled both of them. “This could look bad,” Nick said.
“Not if it’s Selina. Maybe it’s her. She went to look at some of those ice cream parlor tables I was telling you about last week.” Jean eyed him critically. “Button your shirt.”
“It’s pretty rumpled.”
“Button it anyway.” She brushed past him on her way to the door. “Maybe you should disappear.”
“Are you serious?”
Jean sighed. “No.” At the front door, she peered through the viewer and let out her breath in dismay. Juliana stood there, her jaw set, looking primed for battle. Jean unlocked the door and opened it. “What brings you here so early, Juliana?”
“I had some errands over this way. Aren’t you going to ask me in?”
Jean stepped back. “Yes, of course. Come in. I have a guest.”
Juliana’s eyebrows met her hairline. “A guest? I am interfering with your sleeping arrangements then.”
Jean made a quick decision not to defend herself. “Come in the kitchen. I’m making waffles.”
Nick rose hastily as the women walked in.
“You must be Nick Cameron,” Juliana snapped.
“Guilty.”
“My mother’s lover.”
“Juliana!” Jean felt the blood drain from her face. “How dare you!”
Nick’s eyes flashed, but his voice was courtroom courteous. “I spent the night on the sofa.”
“Of course, you did.”
His mouth twitched. “But if I’d spent it in your mother’s bed, it would have been her business, not yours.”

Thank you so much for taking time to chat with me today Gwyneth.  I always love meeting new authors and wish you the best in success.

I was able to ask Dominique a few questions.  Thank you so much for taking  a few minutes to chat with me Dominique.  It is a pleasure to have you here at my blog today.

BK:  What inspired you to pen your first title?
DW:  I wanted to inspire others. I felt a calling that my writings should inspire others. With that, I wrote and published my first book “Inspire Me Young” and dedicated it to someone I lost a few years before.

BK:  How long have you been writing?
DW: Wow, I’ve been writing since I was a young girl but seriously writing for about seven years now.

BK:  What was the hardest part about writing this particular novel?
DW:  Writing The Tension Reliever Volume was difficult because I was revealing a side of me I never allowed others to truly see. I felt for so many years that I had to censor ME and when I decided to put out a second volume to the Tension Reliever, I felt this was the time to bring the other me out. I’d been through a lot in 2010 and it came pouring out into my writings.

BK:  Have any dreams been realized as a result of your writing?
DW:  Yes, that somehow some way, I inspire others. It could be my drive to be the best, my inspiration for helping others or simply my love for writing. I find that in everything I do, I’m inspiring someone in some area of their life and it’s a dream for me to be able to inspire people that way.

BK:  Where do you hope to take your writing in the future?
DW:  -I’d love to be a best seller, travel around the world to meet various people and continue to inspire people through my writings.

BK:  What advice do you have for writer's just starting out?
DW:  Trust yourself, believe in you and your work, be your number one cheerleader and never ever give up!!!

BK:  Anything else you would like to share with us today?......
DW:  Thank you so much for taking the time to learn more about me and thanks for hosting me on this tour!

Dominique returns with her sixth book, second volume to her poetry collection The Tension Reliever. In this volume you get to see a different side of the author. Topic: "A Change is Coming" : Imagine you are walking in a grassy field and you notice something is different. Off in the distance you see trees and everything seems normal. You can't put your finger on what it is, but there is something different. There is a certain eerie feeling...

In The Ghost of Atlanta, Andy Michael Pilgrim faces demons from his youth that haunted his life. These are the ghosts in the crawl spaces of his life; some are real and some supernatural. After landing a job with The Atlanta Defender, Andy returns home and visits the place where he finally faces remembrances of his deceased abusive father. While walking around the grounds, he meets his mysterious cousin, Joe Boy, and finds out that the property is going to be sold by unscrupulous cousins. While Andy fights this battle, he must confront the personal demon of a possible drug addiction, breaking the color barrier at the south's largest newspaper, The Atlanta Defender, meeting his old girl friend and fighting the lingering effects of segregation in small-town Georgia life. As the story unwinds, all these forces push Andy toward the breaking point, where he almost quits on life. Malevolent mortal deeds are committed and Andy could be next in line. "The Ghost of Atlanta" is, overall, a superbly written book. 5 stars!~Readers Favorite

Book Blitz Tour with Marian L. Thomas - My Father's Colors

1. Introduce us to your new book: My Father's Colors-The Drama-Filled Journey of Naya MonĂ  Continues.
My Father's Colors takes you on the journey of four individuals that lead to one incredible destination filled with betrayal, lies and shocking secrets.
Naya MonĂ  is back on another emotional and drama-filled roller coaster as she finds herself fighting to find her voice, discover her father's past and search for her daughter. How do you find a daughter you never knew you gave birth to?
Then there's Chris—her husband. How far would one go for love? That is the question that Chris wastes no time answering. He will do whatever it takes to remove his wife’s pain, even if it means being the one to cause her the most.
Let's not forget Misty. Fame and Fortune have been the determining factor for Misty ever sense her father passed away. How far will she go, this time, to achieve it?
Introducing, Carl Thompson. Carl has found the love of his life, only she doesn’t know it. Green eyes and hazel brown hair fill his dreams for the future. Does he have enough love for the both of them?

2. What prompted you to write your book?
"Watching and personally being connected to close friends growing up who struggled, cried and endured the pains of abuse prompted me to tackle the subject of abuse within the pages of my books. However, this book is not just about the subject of abuse, it is about the struggles that we as women go through. Abuse, for some is one of them. Many women have traded in family, love and friendships for careers, they have in a sense forgotten the essentials in life. Some have had to push past the pain of divorce. Others have struggled to find peace and open their hearts to forgiveness. In this book, there is something that I think any woman can relate to.

3. Describe two main events that take place within your book?
"First, there is the inner struggle that the main character Naya MonĂ  must face. She must find peace within herself, within her past and dig within the depths of her heart to find forgiveness for her father.
"Second, there is the inner struggle of Jonathan—Naya's son. How do you deal with knowing that your mother was raped and that you were the result? How do you find the strength to forgive when your heart can't let go of the past? How do you see your future—your wife and children and realize that their love is what matters most?
4. What message do you hope readers will take away from your book?
"That the term 'color' doesn't necessarily refer to the color of a woman's skin. Rather, it can refer to the colors that make up her crayon box of life. As women—our journeys, emotions, experiences, tears, joys, laughter and even pains in life help determine the colors in our box. We can either create our own box of crayons or allow others to do it for us."
5. Book Clubs are often looking for books that encourage a lively discussion, how does your book accomplish that?
"My book gets into something woman want to talk about, men. The ups and downs of marriage, the love we have and the love we've lost or was never shared by both parties. There is a lot of meat in this story that will drive not only a lively discussion but one that will make a book club discussion fun and exciting."
So you are open to visit book clubs?
"Most certainly. I love it in fact. It gives me an opportunity to share what I was thinking when I wrote a particular chapter and it allows me to hear what the reader thought as they read it. Book clubs can schedule either a live visit by me or a Skype/webcam chat. I welcome book clubs in states such as Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, North and South Carolina and even some parts of Florida."
How do book clubs schedule a visit?
"They can visit my website at: http://www.marianlthomas.com and click on the link shown for them to schedule a visit or a live web chat."
6. Any last minute thoughts?
"I thank every reader for purchasing my books. My journey to publication only continues because of your love and support."

VBT Pit Stop with HD Hatcher - A Cold Dark Place

Author HD Hatcher is no newcomer on the literary
scene. He is author of In the Heart of the Closet, a
piece nominated for both the 2006 Stonewall Book
Award and the 2005 Lambda Literary Award. He is
an avid supporter of gay and lesbian causes, suicide
prevention programs, as well as Animal Rights.
Hatcher currently resides in the Grand Strand area
of South Carolina, near his hometown of Conway,
with his Life Partner of ten years, Jerry.
 A Cold Dark Place
 One Too Many (a short)
Unloved (Anthology)

Today I am pleased to have my guest author HD Hatcher.  Welcome HD and thank you so much for taking time to chat with me today.

BK:  What inspired you to pen your first title?

HD:  Being a gay writer, I am always on the lookout for gay stories. Unfortunately, most of the novels that I have read, concentrate on the sex between two men, the drug habits of this one or that one, and the big party that gay people apparently indulge in on a daily basis (which someone forgot to invite me to). There is a very serious and human side to GLBTI community that deserves attention. I wanted to write a story that showcased the emotional and sometimes tragic side of being gay.

BK:  How long have you been writing?

HD:  I have been writing ever since childhood. I am a lover of poetry and this is where I got my start.

BK:  What was the hardest part about writing this particular novel?

HD:  A Cold Dark Place was too dark for me at times. As clichĂ© as this may sound, I literally had to dig deep and drudge up dark emotions that I do not normally have. I am a very happy-go-lucky kind of person, and I would have to put the pen and paper down and walk away from writing A Cold Dark Place to recuperate emotionally.

On a chance meeting, (at a mutual friend’s house) Luke finds the love of his life. Andy is what Luke has been longing for all of his adult years: the perfect man. But, this perfect man is not only straight—he is married to a woman who is more devilish than Satan himself.

In a bittersweet journey that will change his life forever, Luke must reach deep inside and find the strength he never knew existed. A Cold Dark Place is the story of a man who must pick up the pieces of his broken heart after a lifetime of heartbreak and betrayal.

BK:  Have any dreams been realized as a result of your writing?

HD:  My dream has always been to have someone read my work, and to like what they have read. So, I would say, yes.

BK:  Is there a message in your novel you want readers to grasp?

HD:  I want readers to grasp that all gay people are not created equal. As with the straight community, love can be sweet and endearing, but it can also be very tragic. Love knows no gender and neither does heartache.

BK:  Where do you hope to take your writing in the future?

HD:  I would love to help in the writing of a screenplay for the movie that someone is making of my book. However, I don’t see that happening anytime soon.

BK:  What advice do you have for writer's just starting out?

HD:  Keep writing and always remember that not everyone is going to like your style of writing or even your story. You don’t write for them. You write for those readers that do.

BK:  Anything else you would like to share with us today?......

HD:  I had the honor of working with some very talented authors in the writing of an anthology entitled Unloved. Every story deals with either suicide or bullying. All proceeds from Unloved will be donated to suicide prevention and anti-bully education programs.

Bullying was once considered a harmless rite of passage. Some were either bullied in school or they were the bully. What was once considered an acceptable practice has now been drawn into the limelight by the national attention of highly publicized suicides due to bullying.

Bullying can take on different forms. Bullying is not just a physical act but can also be an emotional, written, or verbal act as well. Bullying can take place in the workplace, school, online, and even while we are traveling in our vehicles on the road. Bullying is a form of abuse that has reached epidemic proportions in the United States and civilized nations across the globe.

When bullying goes too far, the end result is sometimes suicide. Suicide should never become an option. One life lost to this senseless way, is one too many!

Seven authors (Jo Davis, HD Hatcher, Omegia Keeys, Autumn Prince, Lisa Rusczyk, KJ Thompson, and Vogue) have joined forces to send one message. That message is, “You are not Unloved!” Unloved is an anthology dedicated to those who have been the victim of bullying, or know someone who has been bullied.

All proceeds from Unloved will go to charities in support of Bully Prevention and/or Suicide Prevention.

HD your books sound great and I cannot wait to read them.  I wish you much success in the future and will be on the look out for new titles from you.  Thank you so much for stopping in and chatting with me today.  It has been such a pleasure :).

HD is currently on Virtual Book Tour and you can view his schedule and follow his tour for your chance to win A Cold Dark Place at The Virtual Book Tour Cafe'.

VBT Pit Stop with Ami Blackwelder and Shifters of 2040

Please welcome my guest author Ami Blackwelder as we sit down for a nice cup of java and chat about Shifters of 2040.

Ami Blackwelder is a forbidden romance writer in the paranormal and historical romance genre. Growing up in Florida, she went to UCf and in 1997 received her BA in English and teaching credentials. She travelled overseas to teach in Thailand, Nepal, Tibet, China and Korea. Thailand is considered her second home now. She has always loved writing and wrote poems and short stores since childhood; however, her novels began when she was in Thailand.

Having won the Best Fiction Award from the University of Central Florida (Yes, The Blair Witch Project University;), her fiction From Joy We Come, Unto Joy We Return was published in the on campus literary magazine: Cypress Dome and remains to this day in University libraries around the country. Later, she achieved the Semi-Finals in a Laurel Hemingway contest and published a few poems in the Thailand’s Expat magazine, and an article in the Thailand’s People newspaper. Additionally, she has published poetry in the Korea’s AIM magazine, the American Poetic Monthly magazine and Twisted Dreams Magazine.

Thank you so much for taking time to chat with me today Ami.  I'm so pleased to have you here on my blog to discuss your newest release,  The Shifters of 2040.

1.  Please tell us a little bit about yourself for those that may not know of you yet….

I am a teacher and a writer. I spent eight years in Asia working as a teacher, building up English schools.

2.  What inspired this to be a series?

The first book Hunted of 2060 told a short segment of a story in my head and after written, I knew more had to be told, characters would not leave me alone -lol.

3.  Technically you wrote the second book in the series first,  and then the first.  How difficult was that to do?

Well, actually, the series is six books and I write book five first. Originally the book was going to be a solo book, about a girl half shifter and half human and her back story was that her father was alien and mother human. As the final page ended, I realized there was sooo much more I wanted to tell about this story. But book five was the starting point. I then worked on book 3 and then book 4. Now I am working on book 2 and then book 1. Actually, I find this easier, because this helps me know where I am going and allows me to dive further into each character, knowing their fate.

4.  How are you keeping up so well with releasing the next installment?

Very busy. Time Management is a plus. Between teaching, an online job, writing, editing, and promoting, it can be daunting. Actually the whole month of December I took off and only got three chapters done in book 2 this month. I will go head on in Feb and March though. Usually writing takes 3 months and editing takes 1-2 months for me.

5.  I see you have the series pretty much laid out.  How do you come up with your ideas for the next book?

I knew vaguely a story I wanted from start to finish and as I write the details become clearer. I usually have a set of concepts I want to work with, but I write more spring about from characters and events i did not anticipate.

6.  What's the hardest part about writing a series?

I love series writing, because I get to know the characters so well. Hardest -would be keeping track of everyone. How old they are here and who is still around and who is the focus in this book and how much do I tell and did I get the appearance correct…I have to keep it on paper.

7.  I know you've received a ton of reviews,  but how do you handle a not-so-good review vs a really good review?

Well, I think most people have something to say that i can use constructively, whether positive or not, but I have received reviews from people whom I simply dismiss because I pretty much think they don't know what they are talking about and don't have anything beneficial to add. I write what I love. If others love it too, great. If not, I am not changing for them.

8.  Why do you write in this particular genre?  Will you ever write in another genre?

I write primarily in SCi Fi Paranormal Romance. but I have written an Historical Romance and have ideas for contemporary romance and cultural romances. So, yes.

9.  Do you have a favorite author?

Jane Austen,

10.  Who has been your biggest influence and why?

George Lucas, Star Wars I guess. This series reminds me a tinge of Star Wars.

11.  Is there anything you would like to share with my readers?

I am pursuing screanwriters and film producers to help make Shifter Evolutions into an independent film.

I could so see this as a movie and I hope you can make it happen.  Thank you so much for joining me today Ami.  I wish you much success in the future and I can't wait for The Hybrids.

America 2040.
Three Species. Divided Lovers. The Race is on for Planet Earth.

Summary: Set in Alaska in 2040, Melissa Marn and Bruce Wilder must work under the iron fist of the SCM, while still trying to maintain humanity. Discovering a world of shifters and hybrids, the scientists must struggle with human prejudice and betrayal. With the original ancestors, dubbed shifters, still living on earth, humans are in the midst of a fifteen year old war. As the eldest hybrids, Unseen and Diamond, learn about humans the hard way, with the loss of loved ones and sacrifices, love on planet earth proves challenging.

With underlining themes of how prejudice breaks human connections and animal/wildlife conservation, this novel which has received rave reviews will leave the reader flipping through the pages.
