Today’s workplace is filled with politics, and as an employee you have to decide what team to play on, the ethical team or the unethical team. The pressures of joining a group or workplace clique are becoming the organization’s mainstream. Although building relationships at work is important the first priority as a new employee is learning the job responsibilities. To many employees make the all to universal mistake of buying into the unbeneficial problematic conflicts in the workplace. Employees should be mindful of the fact that every role counts—that is, one person’s failure to perform can affect a department or an organization as a whole. In essence, some employees make the common mistake of not fully performing to organizational standard. This is a huge misstep and a very unprofessional impression to create when dealing  with work. These behaviors within organizations world-wide are the new norm, general mistakes employees make in the workplace.

A frequent misstep employees’ make dealing with employers is communicating their boundaries by not overextending themself to employers. When employees overextend themselves it often leads to increased workloads that result in failure to keep up meet work demands and deadlines. This is why employees must communicate with co-workers and managers in an open and honest straightforward manner to establish trust. Trust has a major impact on performance and workplace behavior. Employees should respect authority; however remain true to their own beliefs and values. One of the primary mistakes employees make with employers is taking responsibility for mishaps. Some employees make a habit of blaming others for their underperformances and workload. Employer-employee relations take a negative turn when employees refuse to take accountability for their actions. In today’s workplace knowledge is often viewed as job security. This is why some employees will not share beneficial information with co-workers. These types of behavior dividends workplace teams as well as breaks trust in an employee-employer relationships. Employee should perform all tasks with a high level of dedication and moral integrity. It is important to establish and maintaining a positive level of performance. This increases opportunities for advancement, and demonstrates loyalty and dedication to the organization as a whole.
